When Nikolai’s brother Lars (As a thriller, Borderliner certainly has its moments and each episode ends on a cliffhanger too, enticing you to keep watching through to the next episode. First few episodes were great. Enjoyed all aspects of this series - until the 'ending'. On a side note, it was the first series I've seen where a gay character is the protagonist, and is NOT defined by his sexuality. The ending is the one of the worst I have ever seen. If you are binge watching you will be so disappointed. The story had too many slow spots, to the point that I almost nodded off more than once. The illogical character actions don’t help either and large stretches of this Norwegian series feels dragged out unnecessarily. Come on didnt we deserve better than that for watching 8 episodes (4,5,6 admittedly fast forwarded).... Viewers invest so much time in a series - they deserve some partial resolution to a story. It's in Norwegian with English subtitles. Early on, Borderliner holds a lot of promise and the story works well; the cat and mouse game between Nikolai (Straight and narrow police detective Nikolai is the main protagonist here and early on we see him stand up for what he believes in, testifying against a fellow colleague. You really empathise with the main character, Niko. I would have given this a lower rating, but decided to add a star or two, just because it kept me watching until the bitter end; an ending that left me disappointed. if that's how norwegian police really is, all the criminals should move there and have a ball. Convinced foul play is afoot, Nikolai sets out with his colleague Anniken to investigate further before stumbling on a key piece of evidence to back up his theory.

Clever opening to each episode giviny us a bit more detail to the plot. 6 out of 7 found this helpful. Each is pursuing a hidden agenda. You are left a few times feeling cheated and not just by the less-than-satisfying ending, but by the palm-to-forehead choices of the actors.

I would really love a follow up. Aside from that aspect the story had some depth to it and the situation gets ever complicated as things go on. It seems the biggest mysteries remain unanswered... I MUST make a point of reading IMDb reviews before I watch anything. Its a little slow at the beginning but the end of the first episode grabbed my interest, but its grip loosened in and out throughout, leaving me bored in some places and interested in other places. The ambiguity of the metaphor permeated the series and gave it depth, making up for the occassional weak motivation. Just finished it and I am still not sure what to say. Was this review helpful? There’s a good array of characters here although the deeper into the series you get the more frustrating it becomes to watch Nikolai and Lars jump from one incredulously illogical decision to the next to try and throw the police off their scent. I was hooked from the start. Took some nice twists and turns, went back on itself a few times but was ok for possibly 10 episodes. Very stressful watch and really hope there's a season 2. This drama asks you to believe that the hero was a good man and then proceeds to show just how duplicitous and stupid a 'good' man can be. But the plot is complicated by leaving too many loose ends at its conclusion. Having finished Episode 8 I actually went confusedly looking for Episode 9 - I truly hadn't realised that it was all over! It's like they ran out of budget, time and story. I am looking forward to the next season but not holding my breath. In perfect noir style, none of the characters are who they seem to be. Is it a mini-series for TV yet to be concluded or is it intended as a stand-alone film? After 8 long episodes of trying to follow the mixed timelines and unbelievable actions of the main characters, the abrupt ending topped it all off! I liked the aspect that it featured a normal mystery crime story with a gay character though him being gay was a very small detail, you could easily forget he was gay as it his interactions with his love interest are probably only 10 to 30 seconds of each episode. I have never felt so angry because so many questions were not answered.

This show is a winner and I sincerely hope season two is in the making, or nearly completed! Just a "cliff hanger" to keep us guessing and wondering - ripped off viewers big-time. So disappointed. Great actors. How many clues can one pig headed cop ignore? The soundtrack complements the action reasonably well. Story is simple but becomes interesting when other story lines enter the mix, a cop covers up a murder committed by a fellow cop and brother, not knowing the depths of the conspiracy involved, and gets caught up in admittedly complicated situation. .
